Selena Swartzfager

President

An accomplished leader and educator, Selena is president of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) where for 14 years she has worked to increase the economic and financial literacy of Mississippi teachers and students. She was awarded the “John C. Shramm Leadership Award” from the National Association of Economic Educators in 2020. She served for 7 years on the executive committee of the National Association of Economic Educators and served for 5 years on the advisory committee of the national Council for Economic Education. Under her leadership, the MCEE has received the following awards: “Mississippi’s Nonprofit Award” from the MS Business Journal in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023; “2017 Outstanding State Council of the Year Award” from the Council for Economic Education; and the “2016 Governor’s Partnership Award” from the MS Association of Partners in Education. She was selected by the Mississippi Business Journal as one of the “Top 50 Leading Business Women in Mississippi” in 2013 and as a finalist for the “2014 Business Woman of the Year.” She was named an “Outstanding Advocate” by the MS Association for Gifted Children. The Mississippi Business Journal awarded her the “Top 40 Under 40” award. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Downtown Jackson (since 2010) where she currently serves as President.


Selena speaks statewide and nationally about K12 teacher and student programs in economics, personal finance and entrepreneurship. Under her leadership, master teacher programs in personal finance and college and career readiness have been created for teachers in Mississippi. She has also led the creation of programming to educate special education teachers and their students in these content areas. She is viewed as a leader nationally in K12 teacher preparation in financial readiness skills. Equitable access to knowledge is a guiding force in all things she does.


Selena earned a B.S. degree in Management with an emphasis in Human Resource Management at the University of Southern Mississippi and a M.B.A. degree from Millsaps College. She is a licensed teacher in the areas of Business Education, Social Studies, and Economics and is a Master Teacher of Economics. In her spare time, she likes to ride mountain bikes and gravel bikes. Selena is co-founder of the Mississippi NICA youth mountain bike league; the founding team director and a Level 3 coach for the Rankin County Composite Mountain Bike team, a middle/high school mountain bike team. Selena also writes travel articles for Texas Lifestyle Magazine.

She is married to Glenn (attorney) for 33 years and has two sons, Ashton (30) who is married to Lauren, lives and works in Dallas, TX and Greyson (22) who is a senior business entrepreneurship major at the University of Southern Mississippi.
